Start With the City
Jodhpur does not need introducing to anyone who loves furniture. For generations, this city has been where India carves, the workshops of the old quarters have sent almirahs, diwans and carved doors into homes across the country and antique shops across the world and the trade here is not an industry so much as an inheritance, passed bench to bench, hand to hand. Walk our lanes in the morning and you will hear it before you see it, the chisels already talking.
FOIS Home is a workshop in that city, in that tradition, doing the thing Jodhpur has always done best, solid wood, carved by hand, built to be kept.
What Happens at the Bench?
Every piece in our store starts as timber chosen at the workshop, seasoned properly, because solid wood that has not been seasoned will tell you about it within a year and we would rather wait than hear about it. Then the work divides the way it always has, the carvers take the elephant heads and the pineapple medallions and the pierced scrollwork, the weavers take the cane, diamond patterns pulled tight by hand over days, the inlayers cut lighter woods into darker grounds piece by piece and the finishers bring the grain up until it glows. No two pieces leave the bench identical and that is not a limitation we apologise for, it is the entire point. हर टुकड़ा अपनी कहानी लेकर आता है।

What We Believe
Furniture has quietly become disposable, flat-packed, laminated, replaced every few years like a phone. We think that is a poor trade, for your money and for the trees. So we build the older way, for the older timescale, a desk that organises a working life, an almirah bought before a wedding and standing long after the children have homes of their own, a diwan that hosts thirty years of afternoons. Buy it once. Hand it down still working.
That belief shapes how we sell, too. Our product pages tell you the honest part as well as the handsome part, how heavy a piece really is, what care it actually needs, who it suits and who should pass. We would rather lose a sale than send the wrong piece to the wrong home, because the wrong home returns it and the right one keeps it for a lifetime.
The Honest Paragraph
Handmade solid wood varies. Grain shifts, small knots appear, a carver's stroke differs morning to evening, finishes deepen with light and years. If you want two pieces matched to the millimetre, machines make those and we wish them well. What we make is the other thing, the piece with a hand in it and once you have lived with one, the machine-made version never looks quite alive again.

Across India, workshop to your door, by freight, with the crew calling ahead. International delivery is not open yet and when it is, this page will say so.
