Sheesham Carved Four Poster Bed

A four poster asks for ceiling height before it asks for floor space.

The tester frame is a plain moulded rectangle, left open, with no fabric and no fittings for any. Four turned posts carry it, each a run of vase turnings, collars and rings, with the heaviest bulb sitting at mattress height where the eye lands.

The headboard crest is pierced work, cut right through so the wall shows behind it, a centre motif with foliate scrolls running out to the shoulders. Under it, a gallery of turned spindles. The footboard repeats those spindles beneath a single heavy turned rail, so the two ends answer each other.

Side rails bolt into the posts with covers over the fittings, and the frame knocks down to go up a staircase.

Give it a flat ceiling, a plain wall behind, and nothing else carved in the room. Under a cove lit false ceiling the top frame sits in shadow and the whole shape disappears.
