Sheesham Writing Desk with Two Drawers and Turned Legs

After six carved pieces this one is a relief. No carving anywhere on it.

The top is a plain slab with a moulded lip, the grain running its length in wide dark bands with the figure left to do the whole job. Two drawers side by side sit in the frieze below, flush fronted, each with a plain rectangular pull cut from the same timber rather than a metal knob.

Legs are turned, square at the block where the frieze meets them, then a run of collars and rings down to a plain foot. Between them an H stretcher, two side rails joined by one centre rail, low enough to keep your feet clear.

That stretcher is the point. It stops a desk this width racking when you lean on the far corner, which is what desks with four unbraced legs eventually do.

Every face is finished the same way. The back is not a back, so it can float in a room or sit against a window rather than shoved at a wall.
