Sofa Cum Bed Set with Two Chairs

Every civilisation solves the same problem it's own way and India's problem was never seating. It was the mehmaan who stays.

Lineage

This form descends from the takht and the diwan, furniture that refused to pick one job and it carries their oldest duty into the flat: by day a two-seater in the baithak, by night, folded flat, a full bed for the cousin whose "one night" the whole family knows better than to believe. In Marwar they'd say padharo and start unfolding. The two armless chairs are it's retinue, seating by evening and pulled apart, a guest room's worth of furniture from one wall.

Curator's Notes

Chenille upholstery in sand and brown, a pebbled pattern band running the length, chrome legs. Found in living rooms facing the television and in studies that become guest rooms by nine. Vacuum the fabric weekly, keep it out of direct sun and unfold it before the guests arrive, not after. The mechanism, like hospitality, works best warmed up.
