Square Pedestal Dining Table

Four sides, one leg and no one at your dastarkhwan ever bangs a knee. That's the whole trick of this one. A square top the colour of warm walnut rises on a single column from a flat plinth, so the chairs slide in from every side and nothing underneath argues with anybody's feet.

It seats four the way a square does, everyone facing everyone, no head of the table, no far end, a proper baithak for eating. Give it the nook where breakfast happens in a hurry, the balcony corner where dinner and the evening chai slow down or a study where it becomes the biggest desk you'll ever own. Wipe it with a damp cloth and dry it after, hot pans on a mat. It's a plain table. Plain tables see the most mehfils.
