Archaeologists of the Indian living room agree on one thing: the most important seat in the house was never a chair, it was a kona. The L-shaped sofa claimed the corner and turned it into the family adda, one arm for the khandaan watching television, the other for the cousin who talks through it, and the stool travelling wherever the youngest was told to sit.

This specimen seats five along its two arms, with the matching stool as the sixth seat, footrest and occasional tea table, depending on the hour. It comes dressed three ways, a maroon and pink fabric for rooms that like warmth and glossy grey or black leatherette for rooms that like wiping clean in one pass, which, with children, is not a small consideration.

Fabric takes the vacuum brush, leatherette takes a damp cloth, both prefer a wall socket's distance from direct sun.
